Fractionated Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera – hydrolosis) is produced from coconut oil by a process of hydrolysis and steam distillation. It is a clear liquid with no aroma.
This Coconut Oil is called “fractionated” because it is a fraction of the coconut oil in which the triglycerides are taken away. The result is an absolutely saturated oil. The saturation extends the shelf life and increases stability. The long-chain triglycerides have been removed, leaving only the medium-chain triglycerides.
You may think of coconut oil as being a thick, white solid oil but, fractionated coconut oil is actually a light, non-greasy, liquid oil.
Fractionated coconut oil is less expensive than many other oils (comparable to in price or even a little less than sweet almond oil) and, like jojoba oil, has a very long shelf life. One of the best features of this coconut oil is that it tends not to stain sheets, a problem with many other massage oils.
Extraction method: Fractionated Coconut Oil is obtained from the Coconut meat which contains nearly all of the oil in the coconut. When it is separated and dried it part is called copra. After the Coconut Oil is extraction from the dried flesh, the oil goes through hydrolysis and is then steam distilled to isolate the triglycerides.
