AROMATHERAPY
for body, mind, and spirit

HOW TO USE AROMATHERAPY OILS

AROMATHERAPY ATOMIZER
This is an electrical device that will dispense the oil throughout the room. Use the diffuser regularly to freshen the air, create mood, treat ailments, and improve health and well-being. Also available are the candle diffusers to which you add water and essential oils to the bowl.
BATH
Add 6-12 drops of your favourite oil or blend. Add just before entering the tub and disperse well. Great for calming the mind and body at bedtime. The molecules of the oil stimulate skin, blood, and sense of smell. Relax and breathe deeply.
SHOWER
Plug the drain of your tub or shower. Add 5 to 6 drops of oil at your feet. It is a wonderful morning wake-up when used with appropriate oils.
INHALANTS
Inhale directly from the bottle, or apply 1 drop to the palm of your cupped hand and inhale deeply. Your essence will travel to the brain and also through the respiratory system. For children you may place oil on a tissue near the pillow during sleep. Inhalants are useful during colds, flu, sinus infection, and catarrh, as well as headaches and anxiety attacks.

MASSAGE
Use 10 drops of essential oil per 1 ounce of oil. Treat a variety of symptoms, sooth the nervous system, stimulate blood and lymphatic flow, nourish and treat the skin. You may also want to dry skin brush after your massage to further increase absorption. Exfoliation will further allow the skin to breathe and become smoother.
FACIAL STEAM
Use 1 cc or 2 cc weekly as a beauty treatment encouraging a healthy glow and deep cleansing of the skin. Use 2-3 times per day during a cold or flu with appropriate oils. Fill a large bowl with boiled water, add 3-10 drops of essential oil, and drop a large towel over your head and your shoulders, entrapping the steam. Start with clean skin and rinse afterward as well.
FACIAL MASSAGE
Choose an essential oil that will appropriately treat your skin type. Reduce the amount of essential oil to half of that which you would use on the body. Pure essential oils may also be added to your entire beauty routine. Add a drop or two to your mask applications, use in your cleansers, soaps, and moisturizers. You can experiment with different essential oils and will soon be elated with the results.
SHAMPOO AND SCALP TREATMENT
Choose oils to address your personal needs. Add 3-7 drops per capful of shampoo and really work your scalp, leave on for 3-5 minutes. You may deep treat your scalp and hair with drops (essence added to oil), massage the scalp and leave on for one hour or longer.
COMPRESS
Add 3-6 drops in basin of warm water - soak cloth and cover area keeping warmth in with heating pad or towel.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Use in your wash cycle to freshen clothes or kill bacteria in the laundry. Add to a spray bottle with water to spritz on carpet for a fresh scent. Use on a tissue placed near your pillow for a multitude of purposes. Add oils to your humidifier when using one.
AROMA SPA
If you are fortunate enough to own a sauna this is an excellent way to enjoy and greatly increase the benefits of all essential oils. The most therapeutic sauna on the market is the Aroma Spa, voted Health Product of the Year 1999. It has proven success in Harvard Medical Studies on chronic illnesses such as arthritis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and cancer. RESPECT THE POWER

  • All oils should be kept out of children's reach.
  • Dilute 2 or less the adult dilutions for use on children depending on age.
  • When in doubt, test skin on young, elderly, ill, or the sensitive.
  • Never use an oil that disturbs your sense of smell.
  • Consult a qualified professional for use during pregnancy.
  • Certain constituents of essential oils are very toxic if taken internally.
  • Do not put oils in ear canal or eyes.
  • Some skin types are more sensitive to essential oils. Skin eruptions are not uncommon during early use and first time users. This is considered detoxification and is not unusual. It is always recommended that first time users dilute their essential oils. Later you can try a stronger version to your own liking or use full strength. Some oils will always cause heat. If you decide to try an oil full strength, use only 1-3 drops unless treating the feet.
  • Choose a carrier oil that is cold-pressed, vegetable-based, and to your own liking.
  • Be your own guide as to which essential oils to use. Everyone is different and we do not all respond the same to a particular oil.
  • All of our oils are recommended for use in a diffuser.
  • Keep your oils out of direct heat and sunlight to prolong life and ensure their good quality.
  • Do not touch caps and lid. Drop oils into your hand to avoid contamination.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS AND HELPFUL HINTS

  • Do not take peppermint at the same time as homeopathic remedies.
  • Citrus oils can cause photosensitivity. Do not use before or during sun exposure.
  • Use all essential oils with caution if you suffer asthma, especially with rosemary.
  • Fennel, hyssop, wild rosemary, sage, and clary sage may aggravate epilepsy.
  • Juniper may aggravate kidney disorders.
  • Hyperthyroidism is disturbed by thyme, pine, and peppermint.
  • High blood pressure may be elevated with Hyssop, Wild Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Pine, and Peppermint.
  • Clary Sage, Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Geranium may lower blood pressure, only if you suffer from hypoglycemia.

NOTE: If you suffer from any serious condition, get the advice of an informed health practitioner or aroma therapist before using essential oils
