Oil of GrapefruitGrapefruit is grown and harvested in the United States, France and Brazil. Its essential oil is a yellow liquid with a fresh, sweet citrus aroma which is considered uplifting and refreshing.

Grapefruit oil inspires alertness and confidence. It will help combat depression, nervous exhaustion and performance stress. Its very sweet fresh citrus fragrance is sure to calm your tired body. A massage using this oil restores your energy and refreshes completely. It can be added to massage blends and therapeutic baths as well as to a vaporizer to provide a cleansing and uplifting environment.

It’s antiseptic and restorative properties remedy oily skin, enlarged pores and puffy facial tissue when added to creams, facial oils and facial steams. It works wonders in fighting acne and other skin conditions. The lymphatic stimulating action of Grapefruit makes it highly beneficial in the treatment of cellulite, fluid retention, obesity and other conditions.

Grapefruit essential oil is useful for more than just fighting cellulite and boosting your lymphatic system; it positively affects your mood and revives the mind while stimulating the digestive system and clearing up congested oily skin and acne. It is known for its antidepressant, diuretic, anti-infectious, astringent and antiseptic properties. Grapefruit essential oil is very rich in Vitamin C and thus helps a great deal in strengthening the body's immune system. It is used in treating anxiety, digestive problems, skin disorders, colds and flus, depression and cellulite. Being a diuretic, it helps to remove the excess water from the body.

Other uses for grapefruit oil are:

  • Like many of the citrus oils, it has a unique 'fat dissolving' characteristic. This is the essential oil most noted for use in reducing cellulite.
  • It assists in weight loss. The uplifting, releasing effect can help bring a positive emotional and mental state, helping you curb the craving to eat when things get hectic!
  • Grapefruit oil may also be helpful with rheumatic conditions where the joints feel warm, swollen and a burning sensation accompanies the pain.
  • Grapefruit has a high vitamin C content and is therefore valuable to the immune system. It helps protect against colds and flu and has diuretic properties, helping to remove excess water from the body.
  • On psychological and emotional levels, grapefruit is noted to assist in cases of depression where one may tend to overindulge in food or chemicals to pacify the pain. The oil helps clear the psychological 'heat' and congestion that results from self-criticism and blame; promoting a lightness of spirit.
  • In aromatherapy applications, grapefruit is refreshing, cheering, slightly euphoria-inducing and energizing. Grapefruit's sweet and familiar aroma can evoke warm feelings that melt bitter dispositions. Grapefruit essential oil is a "releasing" oil, so personalities that tend to harbor resentment or keep emotions bottled up can benefit it’s properties.
  • Grapefruit essential oil has an uplifting effect on the mood and helps with stress and depression. It is used with great success to combat muscle fatigue and stiffness while stimulating the lymphatic system and thereby clearing the body of toxins. It helps to clear congested oily skin and acne, while toning the skin and tissues. Grapefruit is used in hair care to promote hair growth.
  • This refreshing oil helps to boost digestion, benefits the immune system by helping to clear the lymphatic system, alleviates muscle stiffness and bolsters the nervous system.

Grapefruit pink blends well with other members of the citrus family, rosemary, cypress, lavender, geranium, cardamon and generally most spice oils

Like other citrus oils, grapefruit may be photosensitizing. Exposure to sunlight should be limited for 24 hours when it has been applied to the skin. Although Grapefruit oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing and listed as non-phototoxic, it can irritate the skin if exposed to strong sunlight after use.
